Methylene chloride is one of the most common solvents used in the process industry. In this case it was present in both liquid and gas phase. A combined system to strip out the solvent from the water and to condense the polluted gaseous streams with a cryogenic condensation unit was proposed as solvent recovery solution. The stripping unit had a peculiar lay-out developed by Polaris and tested under several different conditions.
A special FAT was done at Polaris site, connecting temporary all the utilities and simulating both the process liquid and gas to treat. Very high abatement efficiencies were obtained during these tests and the customer requirements for solvent recovery were completely fulfilled and even exceeded.
